| Cornerstone Church is built on the foundation of a deep respect for the Bible, and for what it teaches us about God and how we are to live life. What we believe determines how we behave. Here is a outline of Cornerstone's foundational beliefs, rooted in the Bible. Cornerstone Church is committed to consistent teaching and vigorous defense of these unchanging truths, while at the same time allowing freedom in other areas of doctrine that fall within the sphere of Christian orthodoxy. | Click here for an audio rendition of What We Believe excerpted from Pastor Jerry's 3/29/09 sermon |
The Bible
We believe that God breathed out the original writings of both Old and New Testaments to the prophets and apostles by means of the Holy Spirit, who chose the words they employed according to the personality and background of these human authors. The sixty-six books comprise the complete and errorless Word of God and are the final authority in what we believe and how we are to live.
God
We believe there is only one true God, who eternally exists as three equal persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit who exclusively share in the work of creation, ruling the universe, redeeming lost humanity and final judgment.
Man
We believe that man was uniquely created in the image of God, but because of Adam's sin that image was damaged so that all human beings are now born with a sinful nature, are unable to function in moral responsibility before holy God, and need a spiritual regeneration before they can become what God designed them to be.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus, the eternal Son of God, entered the human race as the holy virgin-born son of Mary. He fulfills the Old Testament predictions of the Messiah; He was rejected by Jewish leaders, condemned by Pontius Pilate, crucified by the Romans and buried in a borrowed tomb. On the third day Jesus arose bodily from the dead consistent with what He predicted and the Scriptures foretold.
Redemption
We believe Jesus died on the cross as a sinless substitute for sinful men of every era. We believe that salvation is a gift of God's grace to all who place their faith in His Son Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Through His death God the Father reconciled the world to Himself so that all who personally receive Jesus are eternally secure in the family of God.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the resurrected Jesus ascended to heaven and on the day of Pentecost sent the Holy Spirit to convince, indwell, guide, comfort and empower all who believe. The Spirit gives believers new life in Christ so that they may live godly lives and engage in love-prompted service to others in accordance with their god-given gifts and passion.
The Church
We believe that the Church consists of all who have been regenerated by the Spirit, and finds expression as local churches operating under the direction of Jesus as Head of His body through qualified elders. The role of all church leadership is to be servants who develop God's people to fulfill their god-given ministry.
Ordinances
We believe that Jesus commanded new believers to be water baptized by immersion as an outward symbol of their spiritual identification with Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Jesus also commanded all true believers to remember His death until He comes by taking the bread and the cup that symbolize His broken body and precious blood.
God's Future Plans
We believe that Jesus Christ will return to this earth visibly and bodily in power and great glory. He will come for His church prior to His millennial reign on earth. At the end of the millennium Satan will incite a final resurgence of evil that will be totally and finally vanquished by God, and a new heaven and new earth will be created in which perfect righteousness will eternally dwell. All human beings will be raised from the dead to face God. Believers will enjoy eternal blessedness called heaven and unbelievers will face eternal separation from God.
