The "God-Factor" in Ministry Teams

I continue to be in awe of how creatively God accomplishes His purposes around Cornerstone Church and within ministry in general. In setting up the “team” concept with volunteers (see examples in 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4 and 1st Peter 4), it has been a JOY to see how the Lord has brought together groups of people to fulfill a need. But it goes far beyond that. When the God-factor is involved and that team is focused and united in Him, it will flourish and thrive in ways only He can make happen. I have been witness to this in relationships that have bonded, for example, with our Kids’ Church Craft Team. These ladies come together to fulfill a purpose of creating and providing a craft for our preschool – 1st grade classes to make. The part that takes things to a different level, is the prayer that goes on with each other, the love that develops between them, the support they give to each other. I’ve seen the same thing happen with our HOPPER Team (our behind-the-scenes organizing and tidying team). I hear about them having lunch together and doing things outside the walls of Cornerstone; I see them laughing and having fun while cleaning tables, alphabetizing name badges or straightening the Resource Center. What is at the core? A united love and purpose that comes from the Father.

Other examples from years ago…one of the weekly nursery teams attended a graduation party of the youth volunteer that had just graduated; And the tender time when I viewed ladies from the craft team sitting in a row, side by side, at the memorial service of one of the team members…a vision I will never forget. Hearts are joined and we celebrate wonderful news in each other’s lives. To hear about friendships that have proven to be life-long, that began when God brought them together to serve Him within a ministry like Kids Church, midweek ministries, special events like VBS, and many other ministries that go on within the church are such incredible blessings to see. Praises to God for understanding the needs within ministry and at the same time understanding the needs we have as people. When He brings together those He has called to lead or serve on a team, wonderful things can happen in ways we could not plan: “to the praise of His glory”.
