As Easter approaches, the one word that comes to mind is love. Unconditional, untainted, never-ending love. Mere words will never be sufficient to express the depth of God’s love and oftentimes we simply can’t get our minds around how deep, how wide and how high His love for us truly extends. Perhaps it’s because we’ve been wounded by someone we love which makes us skeptical of accepting such an untainted love. Or, perhaps it’s because we genuinely feel unworthy of such an everlasting, true and perfect love.
The beauty of God’s love is that it is unending; and, He loves us in spite of ourselves --in spite of our sin, our shame, our pride, our unholiness. Easter is a clear picture of His sacrificial love. Many are familiar with John 3:16, but let’s really think about the power of this message, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” Instead of skimming right through this verse, let’s take a moment to reflect on what God’s Word is expressing. He loved us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us ….you and me…. so we can live with Him forever. A love so amazing, so divine, so sacrificial, so forgiving and so immeasurable. In our humanness, we are so undeserving and unworthy of such a love; yet, God reaches out to each of us with His arms open wide. There simply is no greater, deeper love nor greater gift.
Accepting this free gift of eternal life requires surrender of our will, inviting Him to be the Lord of our life and making a commitment to follow Him. Then begins our precious journey with Him. He doesn’t promise a free and easy life, but He does promise His love …His faithful, unwavering love. A love we can depend on, stand on, run to and cling to throughout our lives. As we follow and trust Him, He will strengthen us, dwell in our hearts and graciously shower us with His love.
As written in Holy Scripture by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:16-19, “I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.”

God’s love is like the most beautiful gold thread that weaves itself through the entire Bible from the very beginning through all of eternity. God’s love is not for simply for a season… It’s for an eternity!
