Cornerstone Church

WELCOME TO A COMMUNITY OF REAL PEOPLE, DEVOTED TO GROWING TOGETHER AND LOVING GOD. PEOPLE OF ALL AGES EQUIPPING EACH OTHER TO THINK AND LIVE LIKE JESUS.

 OUR MISSION: L.E.A.D.

  • At Cornerstone Church our primary mission is not growing a great organization, but rather helping people to know and love the God who already loves them perfectly. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus answered the question of why you exist by saying that the greatest commandment is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"

  • At Cornerstone, equipping every believer is absolutely essential because our survival depends on it. Our mission statement reads, “We develop (equip) God’s people to Christian maturity through a community with vibrant worship, biblical teaching, personalized equipping and genuine care.”

What is the goal of equipping? Ephesians 4:13 give us the answer: “the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Simply put, an equipped Christian thinks and lives like Jesus.

  • Our mission states, “We empower God’s people to answer God’s call to serve Him." What is it going to take to answer God’s call to serve?

Four Golden Rules for Servants Who Answer God’s Call:

    1. Look around you for an opportunity to serve. John 9:1-4

    2. Serve in a ministry tailored for you. Ephesians 2:10

    3. Approach your service with humility. John 13:13-17

    4. Let love for God motivate your service. Revelation 2:2-5

  • The essence of the Christian message is good news. Cornerstone’s mission states, “We exist to be lovers of God who communicate the good news of God’s love found in Jesus Christ.” The essential content of the good news is given in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” Jesus, God’s only Son, paid the ultimate price by dying for our sins as our righteous substitute. Then Jesus was buried and after three days in the grave proved that He was the Son of God by rising from the dead. The Bible declares that by believing in Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord you can be assured of God’s forgiveness and receive God gracious gift of eternal life. Ephesians 2:8-9 states “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Cornerstone Church believes the gospel, communicates the gospel, lives the gospel and is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God to transform everyone who believes it (see Romans 1:16).

 STATEMENT OF FAITH

 OUR VALUES

  • We value authentic community...where relationships are built on honesty, cooperation, commitment and sacrificial love for one another. Everyone is welcome in Cornerstone’s diverse community...where being transformed into the image of Christ is highly valued and where God’s power and presence is evident. Our relationship with Jesus Christ and each other is the glue that holds us together. The source of our community is the love of Jesus Christ for each one of us. John 13:35 - 1 John 3:16 - 1 Peter 2:5 - 1 Corinthians 12:13

  • Prayer is actively promoted as our personal and corporate discipline. When combined with faith, prayer yields amazing results. Our dependence on God to do what we cannot do reminds us that with God all things are possible. Ephesians 6:18 - 1 John 5:14 - John 15:7

  • We believe that man was uniquely created in the image of God. But because of Adam’s sin that image was damaged; so that all human beings are now born with a sinful nature, are unable to function in moral responsibility before holy God, and need spiritual regeneration before they can become what God designed them to be. 2 Timothy 3:16

  • God leads His church as the Holy Spirit moves in powerful ways in the lives of its individual believers. God has given every believer a capacity to minister His grace to others. We help every Christian to identify their gifts, passion and natural talents; and we encourage their use. The pastors are equippers and models of servant-style leaders. The people are the ministers who function in synergistic teams to carry out the work of Jesus Christ in the church and the world. John 4:24 - Hebrews 13:15 - Psalm 150:6

  • The gospel is the power of God for salvation to those who believe. We consider it our mission to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to the entire world beginning with our own local residential communities. We seek to use methods to communicate the unchanging gospel message that fit the cultural context of the hearers. Matthew 28:19 - 1 Corinthians 9:22

 OUR BELIEFS

  • We believe that God breathed out the original writings of both Old and New Testaments to the prophets and apostles by means of the Holy Spirit, Who chose the words they employed according to the personality and background of these human authors. The sixty-six books comprise the complete and errorless word of God and are the final authority in what we believe and how we are to live.

  • We believe that there is only one true God who eternally exists as three equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who exclusively share in the work of creation, ruling the universe, redeeming lost humanity and final judgment.

  • We believe that man was uniquely created in the image of God; but because of Adam’s sin that image was damaged so that all human beings are now born with a sinful nature, are unable to function in moral responsibility before holy God, and need spiritual regeneration before they can become what God designed them to be.

  • We believe that Jesus, the eternal Son of God, entered the human race as the holy virgin-born son of Mary. He fulfills the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah: He was rejected by Jewish leaders, condemned by Pontius Pilate, crucified by the Romans and buried in a borrowed tomb. On the third day Jesus arose bodily from the dead, consistent with what He predicted and the Scriptures foretold. He ascended to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

  • We believe Jesus died on the cross as a sinless substitute for sinful men of every era. We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s electing grace to all who place their faith in His Son Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Through His death, God the Father reconciled the world to Himself so that all who personally receive Jesus are eternally secure in the family of God.

  • We believe that the resurrected Jesus ascended to heaven and on the day of Pentecost sent the Holy Spirit to convince, indwell, guide, comfort and empower all who believe. The Spirit gives believers new life in Christ so that they may live godly lives and engage in love-prompted service to others in accordance with their God-given gifts and passion.

  • We believe that the Church consists of all who have been regenerated by the Spirit and finds its expression as local churches, operating under the direction of Jesus as Head of His body through qualified elders. The role of all church leadership is to be servants who develop God’s people to fulfill their God-given ministry.

  • We believe that Jesus commanded us to baptize new believers as an outward symbol of their spiritual identification with Christ's death, burial and resurrection, and it is our practice to baptize by immersion in water. Jesus also commanded all true believers to remember His death until He comes by taking the bread and the cup that symbolize His broken body and precious blood.

  • We believe that Satan exists and is the originator of sin. He is the arch-enemy of God and man. He persistently seeks to counterfeit the works and truth of God. His eternal destiny is to be cast into the lake of fire forever.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ will return to this earth visibly and bodily in power and great glory. He will come for His church prior to His millennial reign on earth. At the end of the millennium Satan will incite a final resurgence of evil that will be totally and finally vanquished by God, and a new heaven and new earth will be created in which perfect righteousness will eternally dwell. All human beings will be raised from the dead to face God. Believers will enjoy eternal blessedness called heaven and unbelievers will face eternal separation from God.

CORNERSTONE’S HISTORY

Welcome to the Church that was never supposed to be. This is Cornerstone Church and here we are standing together in this place that God has made. This is a thriving community. A group of people who are really on mission, not only in this community, but around the world. It is the most exciting place to be all through the week. Well it didn’t begin all that easy, eight couples came together to pray; we need a new church, we need a church that is relevant to our needs, our home, our family, and our lives that speaks the word of God into our life. So to this very day, Cornerstone Church begins and ends everything in prayer.
