An Open Door
In October of 2024, one of our partners at Strategic Resource Group (SRG), approached us with an opportunity to participate in a pilot project through their Movement of Medicine initiative—an effort focused on addressing the urgent medical needs of Sudan’s displaced communities.
Our honest first reaction was: “We’re not a medical mission.”
But through prayer, God redirected our concerns about capacity limitations, toward the overwhelming need within our reach.
Saying “yes” came with many challenges and potential roadblocks. The list is long, but praise God, He made a way through every single one.
In late May of 2025, three pallets of medicine arrived safely in Juba. GRA, in partnership with a trusted friend and fellow believer—formerly South Sudan’s Minister of Health—quickly assembled a medical team made up of a doctor, a nurse, and a pharmacist. They would go to each camp and do a “Pop-up Clinic,” seeing patients and providing medicines.
GRA worked with the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) to have the shipment received under their umbrella to limit payment of excessive duty.
Additionally, by God’s providence, GRA already had 28 Evangelism and Church Planting teams serving in 28 refugee and displaced persons camps across three countries. These teams are all graduates of our Jesus Impact School of Mission, and they were in place ready to come alongside the medical outreach.
Over the space of three weeks, the medical team was deployed to three refugee camps outside of Juba, creating a pop-up clinic with each visit. In just 12 days, 1,024 patients were treated. Every person heard the Gospel, and many prayed with our evangelism teams to receive Christ. Then, something remarkable happened.
An Open Door—Again
Before the pilot was even complete, GRA was invited to receive a second shipment—three times the size of the first—scheduled to arrive at the end of July.
This new shipment included a large inventory of pediatric medicines. The timing could not have been more critical: Over 50% of Sudanese refugees are children, and 27% are under the age of five. Our pilot shipment had included no pediatric supplies.
After much prayer and consideration—balancing the demands of our School of Mission, Scripture Translation, Trauma Healing and Disciple Making Movement trainings—God once again confirmed His promises.
And again, we joyfully said: “Yes Lord.”
Expanding the Reach
Moving beyond Juba into three major Sudanese refugee regions—each with multiple camps—required the formation of three additional medical teams. Plans were made to fly the teams and essential medicines to these remote locations near South Sudan’s border with Sudan.
The logistics were significant and often difficult—but by God’s grace, the final team was deployed just last week. All three medical teams are now in place and actively serving.
Early Impact
The first deployed team in Aweil, just south of the Darfur border, has already reported extraordinary results. In just eight days, they have treated over 1,000 children.
Thank you for walking with us, praying with us, and believing with us. Please continue to pray for us as we work to bring healing and the hope of the Gospel to the people of Sudan. Praise us in advance for His provision according to His will.
With Thanksgiving,
Dr. Cliff Daffron
